Are you cranky sometimes, most times, all the time? Ask yourself; “Why am I cranky?” “Do I like to be cranky?” “Is my crankiness achieving anything worthwhile for me and others?” If there are no justifiable reasons for your crankiness, then you need to STOP!
Cranky people are not good fun to be around. They are called ‘wet blankets’ and spoil the fun for everyone. No wonder they don’t go at the top of the party invitation list. But, no man is an island and good, clean fun is the panacea to health and wellbeing. So, read the top paragraph again and STOP being cranky.
In 3 John 1:2 it says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” Mental health and wellbeing is just as important as physical health. They can be seen as two sides of a coin. When your soul prospers, all other facets of your being align themselves.
Some synonyms for cranky include bad tempered, grumpy, ridiculous, bizarre and off centre. If you are off centre, you are not balanced. Nobody drives a car when the wheel alignment is off because they know how dangerous and risky that would be. So, why do you want to be seen as a cranky person?
The remedy is not to be found in ourselves but in others. Believe it or not, we cannot fix our own situation by looking into ourselves. When we reach out to others in need, we get an intrinsic reward. More importantly, we come to a realisation that whatever situation is causing us to be cranky, pales into insignificance in compassion to what others are facing.
When we lend a helping hand (sometimes sacrificially) to those in need, it releases a ‘feel good’ hormone in us. This lifts the clouds of blue from our mind. We not only get a release but we get an energy boost in executing the good deed to the one in need. Put simply, it puts a smile in our dial and a spring in our step. Now, isn’t that something worth working for?
Galatians 6:9 says, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Most importantly, we please God in doing good and having the right attitude. Hebrews 13:16 says, “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” You will be cranky no more, for sure! ◊
