‘B’ for Believer
Who is a believer?
Read: 1 Peter 8:12; Romans 10:9-19; Luke 8:1-15
Here is a Bible acronym Dad taught us when we were kids:
B.I.B.L.E.
B –> Be
I –> Informed
B–> Before
L–> Leaving
E–> Earth
What makes a person a Believer?
B –> believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, be baptized in His name
E –> enter into a right relationship with God and fellowmen
L –> leave all the cares and concerns of the world behind
I –> inform others of the gift of salvation and the finished work on the cross
E –> enjoy fellowship with God and fellowmen
V –> victoriously face each day, no matter how great the challenge
E –> eternity on your mind, every single moment you have breath
R –> redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Lamb that was slain
Believers are often called ‘born again’ because they die to their old, sinful (Adamic) nature and take on a new (Christ) nature. Those who confess Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives and believe that He is the one and only Son of God are mandated to take the outward step of water baptism, publicly declaring Him Lord of their lives.
Believers no longer live a life for themselves but one that is wholly surrendered to God in thought, word and deed. This step is demonstrated in their relationships towards their fellow men. Acts of kindness are hallmarks of a genuine believer.
Believers stand out amongst the crowd. They are in the world but not of the world. Their godly conduct, purity of heart and good deeds attract others to them.
Believers boldly and shamelessly declare the salvation story to the lost world around them, knowing full well that it is the will of God that none should perish.
Believers have a heavenly glow that cannot be ignored, like moths to a flame. Their eyes are set on eternity and no matter the cost, they run their race with perseverance and courage, enabled by the Holy Spirit who dwells within them.
Are you a believer whose light is shining brightly and illuminating the path of those around you? Jesus said, “Let your light shine before men that others may see and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 ◊
