When you love what you do, it shows. There is an enthusiasm about it that generates its own energy.
Ducks love the water – that’s a fact. When there’s no water, they march around searching for it. Any little puddle is most welcome but when they happen to find a trough full of water, that is certainly duck heaven for them. Watch them hasten to it and dive right in. Oh, the spills and thrills and sheer delight can be seen and heard all around! It is a sight that causes you to grin from ear to ear. That is ‘heaven’ to them – you must agree!
When you do something you like, doesn’t it show on your face? The key words are ‘do’ and ‘like’, which produce an effect. This is a positive and very desirable effect; something that money cannot buy. Psychologists talk about an intrinsic reward, a reward that is not externally driven. We do things because we love to do them – period!
How many people love what they do? More importantly, how many of us get to do what we love? Love is that all-encompassing energy that saturates our being and makes life all the more meaningful.
We know about a great love. “Greater love hath no man than one who laid down His life for mankind.” See John 15:13. I don’t think we can fully comprehend that love. Have you watched a hen hasten to find morsels of food for her little chicks? There is that busyness, that determination and energy in her every action. She also fiercely guards her chicks from any threats.
‘Like a hen gathers her chicks, so too does the Lord gather us under His wings.’ See Matthew 23:37. His protection is like ‘a shield over us’. See Psalm 91:4. His love is never-ending for His beloved children. See 1 Corinthians 13:8a.
This profound love of God is the place where we find safety, warmth and belonging. Like ducks gravitating to that pool of water, the inbuilt ‘god factor’ within each of us, gravitates to that great, incomprehensible love that God our Maker extends to us. As ducks enjoy their ‘duck heaven’ we too can look forward to our eternal heaven. ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard of the great reward the Lord has prepared for those who love Him.’ See 1 Corinthians 2:9.◊
