Prophetic Scriptures in the Old Testament tell us that the Messiah will come and they are confirmed in the New Testament, proving the Sovereignty and Power of Almighty God.
Old Testament
- Moses told the people this powerful word on the subject of the Messiah, which was fulfilled in the New Testament: “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.” Deuteronomy 18:15 NIV
New Testament
- A Prophet as recorded in Acts, “and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets. For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.” Acts 3:20-22 NIV
Old Testament
- The Spirit of the Lord, as recorded by Isaiah. “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,” Isaiah 61:1-2 NIV
New Testament
- Luke records, ““The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”” Luke 4:18-19 NIV
Old Testament
- The Psalms talk about the Messiah being betrayed by a friend, “Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me.”Psalms 41:9 NIV
New Testament
- Luke records, “While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him,” Luke 22:47 NIV
Old Testament
- Prophet Zechariah spoke about Him being sold for 30 pieces of silver, “I told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.” Zechariah 11:12 NIV
New Testament
- Matthew writes of the betrayer, “and he asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. Matthew 26:15 NIV
Old Testament
- Isaiah writes that He will be silent when accused, “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.” Isaiah 53:7 NIV
New Testament
- Mark records, “So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.” But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.” Mark 15:4-5 NIV
Old Testament
- Isaiah foretold of the Messiah’s sacrifice for our sins, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NIV
New Testament
- In Romans we read, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6 NIV
Old Testament
- The Psalms tell us the Messiah will be pierced through His hands and feet, “Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet.” Psalms 22:16 NIV
New Testament
- John writes, “Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”” John 20:27 NIV
Old Testament
- The Psalms tell us that the Messiah will pray for His enemies,Ps 109 4 “In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.” Psalms 109:4-5 NIV
New Testament
- Luke says, “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.” Luke 23:34 NIV
Old Testament
- The Psalms record that no bones will be broken, “he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.” Psalms 34:20 NIV
New Testament
- John writes, “The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”. John 19:32-33, 36 NIV
Old Testament
- Isaiah recorded that the Messiah would be buried with the rich, “He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.” Isaiah 53:9 NIV
New Testament
- Matthew wrote, “As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.” Matthew 27:57-60 NIV
Old Testament
- The Psalms record how He would be resurrected from the dead, “But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself.” Psalms 49:15 NIV
New Testament
- Mark writes, “ “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ ”” Mark 16:6-7 NIV
Old Testament
- The Psalms speak about His ascension to God’s Right Hand, “When you ascended on high, you took many captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious— that you, Lord God, might dwell there. Psalms 68:18 NIV
New Testament
- Mark records that, “After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.” Mark 16:19 NIV
Remember: God is not a man that He should lie. He promised mankind that He will send the Messiah to redeem all men back to Himself after Adam, the first man sinned and severed his relationship with Almighty God. Prophetic Scriptures about the Messiah in the Old Testament have been fulfilled in the New Testament. We cannot deny this and we have no excuse on why we do not accept this truth, which is the infallible Word of Almighty God.
The Golden Verses of the Bible is “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:16-18 NIV
