Your hands – they belong to you and you alone! What do you use them for? Now, examine those hands closely… are they smooth and supple, rough and rugged, fancy or plain?
Some people dip their hands into what is not theirs, like pinching the money of others. They justify their behaviour by saying that those people have enough money anyway. That’s not right – two wrongs don’t make a right!
Examine the hands of an ageing mother – they are creased and bear many deep ridges on those nails from too much water work. Those hands can tell many stories.
Mighty, majestic hands created the heavens and the earth. Isaiah 48:13 says, “It was my hand that laid the foundations of the earth, my right hand that spread out the heavens above. When I call out the stars, they all appear in order.”
There is unfathomable power in the hands of the Maker of the Universe. Jeremiah 32:17 says, “Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.”
Jesus Christ used His hands to do great and mighty deeds. Luke 4:40 says, “At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.” Some of the religious leaders opposed Him and wanted Him killed. When brought to Pontius Pilate, he washed his hands because he didn’t want to shed innocent blood – Matthew 27:24.
When Jesus Christ was crucified, His hands and feet were nailed to the cross. But on the third day, He rose again and conquered death itself. To some, seeing is believing – read John 20:24-29. Jesus is not a ghost; He appeared to His disciples and ate with them – read Luke 24:36-43.
Hand signals point us in the right direction. How do you know which is the right road? If it appeals to the masses, then you know that it is an easy road. The path of truth is a very narrow and few follow it. Jesus walked the narrow road and did marvelous good for all humanity. He pointed us towards the Way and promised us an eternal home.
Jesus Christ blessed the little children and showed us what the Kingdom of God is like – read Mark 10:13-15. His nail-pierced hands are outstretched to welcome those who seek Him – read Matthew 11:28-30. The Lord gives us true rest for our weary souls. ◊
