Look at those footprints in the sand
Two old friends enjoy a leisurely stroll
Relaxing at the beach
Enjoying the winter sun
All is peaceful and calm
Rhythmically the tide ebbs.
Time passes as children bring grandchildren
The frenzied pace of everyday life lightens
Time for reflection and response
Time to lend a helping hand when needed
An ever-present friend to the lonely
A listening ear to the overwhelmed.
Once we were young and free
We skipped, we danced and we ventured
We built our castles and brought up our kids
Work, work and work – unending activity
But we partied well in family celebrations
Christmas and Easter – the crowning events.
Walking on the soft beach sand
Leaving footprints that will soon wash away
We lived our life the best we could
Sprinkled with laughter and tears
We were never alone
Sands of time will not erase our walk of faith.
Folks come and memories fade
But eternity goes on to infinitude!
