How are you investing your time? Once it is used, time came never be brought back. You cannot unwind the clock! Remember, time lost is gone down the drain, never to be recovered. So, how are you investing your time?
More importantly, where are you investing your time? Is it on things that are fleeting or is it gaining value for you? You might think that your assets like your house, car, etc. are good investments. Well, to an extent that might be true. But, nothing is foolproof and anything can rip your stuff apart.
The pharaohs tried to outsmart death itself by adding bounty to their tombs to pay their way into the next life. Some even wanted their slaves accompanying them in the hereafter to serve them so they could continue to enjoy royalty status.
When you die, you take nothing with you! Naked you came into this world and naked you will go from it. 1 Timothy 6:7 says, “for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” Proverbs 27:24 says, “For riches do not last forever; and does a crown endure to all generations?”
The story of the rich man exemplifies where we invest our time. He gets a sharp rebuke at the closing moments of his life. Luke 12:20 says, “But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ Likewise, so is the person who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
When you die, the only thing you take with you is your character. So, have you investing wisely in that very important area of your life? Have you used your time to build your character so that it will be a blessing rather than a curse to you and others? Will you be remembered as a dodgy character, a mean old Scrooge, a wishy-washy person, a pompous fool? Remember, character cannot be bought with all the wealth you attain.
Someone wise said, ‘Time is temporary, eternity is not!’ What you do here impacts your life significantly. Luke 16:22-23 says, “The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.”
