Yea, though I walk through the Valley…Part 2
In my life, I have had many mountain experiences, and with that comes the valley experiences. Just as we enjoy and embrace the mountain experiences in our lives, we should embrace and endure the valley experience as well. All happenings in life are to shape and help us grow in our walk with God.
After thirteen years as a teacher, a challenge arose as far as my professional life was concerned, way back in the year 2000. The Education Department was restructuring and in my case, it was to my disadvantage. It was a time of emotional turmoil and some degree of chaos for many people in the field. I lapsed into a state of depression and consequently this led to the enemy attacking my spiritual life.
As I sank into clinical depression, the only feasible option was to consult a psychiatrist who treated me and prescribed antidepressants. This was a dark period in my life in 2002. However, the prayers of my faithful family eventually prevailed and the darkness over my life lifted. This happened a year after I was first treated by the psychiatrist.
It was during the Sunday worship service in February 2003 when the Word of God was brought so powerfully by our Pastor. He preached that Jesus died for all our afflictions, including the affliction of the mind. Psalm 46:1 (KJV) says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” After a year of spiritual bondage, this scripture led to my bondage being broken and I felt a release in my spirit. I then wrote a letter to my psychiatrist, stating that I was a devout Christian and had finally been healed of the depression and she could count me as one of her successes.
By this time, I had resigned from teaching and joined our family business as a partner. In 2003, Pastor asked me to pray about being involved in the Children’s Ministry at the church. I prayed God’s will and then got involved in the ministry for ten years. These were the best years of my life as a Christian. I felt a sense of fulfilment and a strong sense of purpose in my Christian walk. However, ill-health plagued me, but the immeasurable grace of our Lord Jesus Christ prevailed over my life.
We saw God’s favour on our lives. My husband and I travelled to India in 2016, Europe in 2018 and United States and England in 2019. This was despite me being diagnosed with kidney problems in 2018. God’s grace and mercy is indeed immeasurable.
God indeed walked with me through the valley.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” Ephesians 1:3 NKJV
