The cost is the price you pay to get something you want. If you want a really good perfume, you pay the price for it. If you want first class seats on an airbus, you pay the price for it. That’s the basic principle, which is common knowledge to everyone.
The price you pay depends on how much value to attach to what you desire. It can sometimes cost you more than you can afford to pay. This means you have important decisions to make. The Pearl merchant saw a really big, beautiful pearl. He had never set eyes on something so beautiful. What did he do? Matthew 13:45-46 NKJV says, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” This man sold all that he had to acquire that ‘pearl of great price’. It cost him all that he possessed.
What is the most precious thing in your life? Is it a thing or a person? Can you afford to give all that you have to get it? Is it your sort-after treasure that you cannot live without? Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Ask people whose hearts have been wrenched, what is the most important thing and they will conclusively say ‘life itself’. So, how much worth do you put on life? Things can be replaced but not life itself. The sobering question is, ‘How much value do you put on your life?’ Would you agree that people are so concerned with the fun and games, the glitz and glamour and the attainment of things that they forget to invest in their life? Mark 8:36 NKJV says, “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
The golden verse in the Bible and its reason provides the answer: John 3:16-17 NKJV says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” Your life and my life cost Jesus everything. He died for you and me so that we can be given life eternal with God. John 10:9 NKJV says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” Have you given your life to Jesus? To the criminal on the cross besides Him, Jesus said, “This day you will be with me in Paradise.” Read Luke 23:43. ◊
