The hardest thing in life is learning NOT to trust in yourself but learning to trust in God. We are born human and therefore have a human nature that puts our trust and confidence in things, people and ourselves. When I had a burn out and sank into clinical depression, my world crashed. Everything I had worked for was dashed to the ground. I now realize that we cannot trust ourselves to sustain us and we certainly cannot put our trust in others because they are human too.
No one who knows what the future holds for them. We plan our lives with grandiose ideas and work hard to build our dreams. If we do not know the Dream Giver and do not commit our all our dreams to Him, it is like building castles in the sand. The tides of life come and erode our castle, sometimes a tiny bit at a time and sometimes one great tidal wave comes in and all our effort becomes futile.
God is the only one who knows the future. Recently my friend reminded me that we should trust God in all things and allow Him direct our lives. She and her husband run a business and they have come to realize that real success comes when you ask God to direct you. However, it is a great mistake to think you can make God bless you. Hebrews 11:6 says that God looks at a man’s heart and rewards those who diligently seek Him.
Total trust in God is the hardest thing to do because you are putting your entire life on the line. Abraham was tested by God to do the most difficult thing that is humanly possible; sacrifice his son. As Abraham made that three day journey to the mountain he had ample time to reflect on his decision. Each step of the way he knew what he was going to do yet he never turned back. Abraham went on the greatest walk of faith. God saw his heart and rewarded him. That is why Abraham is referred to as the Father of Faith. Read the story in Genesis 22:1-19.
What seems impossible with man is possible with God. When we trust God with all our heart and do not rely on our own understanding, we are allowing Him to direct our lives. When great things start to happen we literally overflow with God’s goodness and we consequently impact the lives of others as well. We are blessed to be a blessing. So the hardest thing in life becomes the greatest thing in life. Trusting God totally in your life makes the impossible possible. He rewards you in ways you could never imagine! ◊
