The Majestic Redwood Trees
By Linda Pearl Ramnath
Majestic and strong,
Towering towards the heavens,
Firmly rooted in unity and unwavering commitment.
Against all odds, enduring all seasons and conditions,
There they stand, the redwood trees.
A shelter in the storm,
A place of refuge for creatures great and small.
Silent and comforting,
Outstretched with protective arms,
Reached towards the stars,
Hallowing the heavens.
We, minuscule, gaze at these impressive giants,
Awestruck by their grandiose,
Amazed by their tenacity to defy all rationale.
Roots that go down not even two metres deep,
Must surely harbour a deeper secret to their longevity.
O foolish man who has speech and intellect,
Meant to be the crowning jewel of creation,
Too quick to seek the axe, too hasty to ponder life’s lesson here!
Look, look at the majestic redwood trees,
United in strength, bonded in love, holding on and never letting go!
From age to age they stand,
Kingdoms come and kingdoms go,
They pave the way for man and beast to tread around and in between.
Stoic, solidified masses, petrified with time,
A reminder of enduring patience, unwavering they stand,
The royal redwood trees from ancient times.
Surely there is a master plan,
Their origins, certainly no haphazard thing.
A Master far greater and wiser than we can imagine,
Gave them these enviable attributes,
To majestically attest to the beauty of all created things!
– Proverbs 12:3 “A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.”
