How many of us react when things go wrong with the typical, ‘Why, God?’ A friend sent me a YouTube clip on ‘Never say can’t’ that has inspired countless people. It was about a baby abandoned at the hospital because she was born without legs. The couple that rescued her gave her one instruction: ‘Never say can’t.’ She grew up strong and determined and became a successful acrobat.
Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves and asking God ‘why’, we should be asking the question ‘what’. We all know that the past has passed and can never come back, even if we scream till we are blue in the face. Instead, we can look at the situation we find our self in and say, ‘What can I do with my life to make it better.’ Who wants to go about their life brooding about their sorry state of affairs? Only a spineless, gutless creature grovels in the dirt. Nothing comes out of nothing!
When things go wrong, like they sometimes do, instead of blaming God and becoming bitter, just ask Him what you should do. Acts 2:21 says, “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Wouldn’t it be interesting if people asked ‘What does God say about my situation?’ If we get into the habit of hearing from God who is all knowing, all hearing and all seeing, we will be totally amazed. A wise man once said, ‘Don’t judge the situation by what You see, but by what God has promised you.’
Don’t blame God for the present; do you not realize that He is the only one with the key to the future. He is the Alpha and the Omega: the beginning and the end and He holds the winning card. So go to God for your answer when things go wrong. Psalm 50:15 (NKJV) says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” When God steps into our situation, the supernatural reigns down on us and great things follow. This is not because of us, but because of who God is. Our response is to acknowledge God’s greatness and thank Him for His benevolence towards us.
Like the gymnast born with no legs, we can experience incredible things in our lives when we simply ask God what we should do in our situations. Jeremiah 33:3(NIV) says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Like the unfathomable depths of the oceans, God’s ways are mysterious and majestic. So, stop asking ‘why’ and getting nowhere. Instead, call on the Lord and ask Him ‘what’ He has planned for you in your situation? Just ask Him and I can guarantee you that you will be amazed! ◊
