Those autumn leaves, crispy and crunchy,
Bedded on the cold ground, surrounding the town,
In a splash of colour on that sunny day at Anzac Park.
Memories of cherished celebrations lie around those autumn trees,
Trees carefully laid out for quieting the souls of young and old.
Those autumn leaves mark the best time of the year.
Passing caravans, stacked trailers, weary travellers,
All find welcomed rest, absorbing the warm sunshine.
This patch of earth, this spot sublime!
Picnic baskets, colourful rugs and hot coffees,
Friendly smiles from passersby,
As the City Hall clock dutifully chimes.
Workers down their tools, droopy eyelids bathe in the sun,
Timely moment as the bush larks sing out their pleasant tune,
Rest for your body, mind and soul.
Oh what peace, oh what joy, no money can buy,
Woofs in the distance, rustling in the trees, melodies from on high.
Wild ducks gracefully glide across the stream.
Those autumn leaves protectively lie at the water’s edge,
Below those sleeping, weeping willows.
Sparrows swoop expectantly for morsels on the ground.
Those restful, autumn leaves are wise,
Leave all your cares behind,
Relax, refuel, be re-energised!
