We cannot trust the hype that media creates, neither can we put our confidence in men in authority, who themselves are standing on shaking ground. But we can and must look up to the Creator of the heavens and earth who holds all things in His mighty hand.
There is a song that says, ‘Count your blessings, name them one by one … and it will surprise you what the Lord has done! In this period of uncertainty and great fear that the world has never tasted before, we need an anchor to rest our souls.
The human heart can grow very faint in the midst of turmoil and we need something bigger than ourselves to carry us through. That is why the wisest man, King Solomon said in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV), “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.”
We can put our trust in the One who is able to save us. Psalm 23:4 (ESV) says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Again, Psalm 138:7 (NIV) says, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.”
When our hope and trust is fixed on God our Savour, our hearts are at rest. Use this T.R.U.S.T. acronym when you see that storm coming:
Take your troubles to the only One who is Truthful.
Reach out to the Rock of your soul.
Understand the Unending Love Father God has for you.
Seek His Security and Strength to cover you.
Talk to the lover of your soul who holds Time in His hands.
What a blessed assurance we have that we can ride out the storm. The song concludes with this verse:
‘So amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged; God is over all.
Count your many blessings; angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.’
Be blessed! ◊
