One of the hardest things in life is knowing when to walk away. Sometimes life can throw you a curve ball. Good things are good and finding truly good people to walk alongside you is great! But sometimes good people have to suffer the consequences of ill-fated situations. What do you do? They say the hardest thing to do is to walk away when you know you have not done the wrong thing, yet the odds are stacked against you.
We live in an imperfect world with imperfect people and we are bound to have biased judgements. Justice is a strong word, which in itself is morally good, yet it is meted out by people who are morally tarnished. What do you do when the hand of justice is gripped by a heavyweight bureaucratic wrench?
There are countless cases, even in the Bible, when wrong was hailed as right and right got the boot. Joseph was wrongfully imprisoned for adultery – Genesis 39:1-21. Steven was stoned to death for his faith – Acts 7:54-60 and Apostle Paul was in and out of jail for false arrests – Acts 24. These people were doing good yet some of them paid for it with their lives.
So, what do you do when you become a victim of circumstances? Sometimes the best way forward is to look at the situation and make an informed decision based on its merit. Walking away does not indicate a sign of weakness nor a flaw in your character.
When you walk away from a toxic situation, you are removing yourself from the toxicity. Toxins are dangerous and damaging to anybody. The more toxins you imbibe, the more you are destroying your health and well-being. It’s not worth it to stay in that place; just walk away!
Your life is your own; remember that and don’t let situations or others dictate to you. At the end, you will have to give an account for your own life. Like Paul and so many others, we need to look to God for our life, our worth and reward. Endeavour to live your life well with no regret! ◊
