The amazing thing about weeds is their resilience. They grow where they are not wanted. They take up space and crowd the good crops. They suck up the nutrients that were meant for the good crop. They annoy everyone. Yet, rain or no rain, they seem to thrive.
The enemy of our soul is like that. He comes uninvited. He encroaches on your space. He causes a major distraction and is a time waster. Every gardener will tell you how valuable time is wasted pulling out weeds.
Sometimes these weeds are so close in appearance with the young plants you put in that you can hardly make out the difference. Scripture tells us to leave the weeds to grow with the young plants because you could end up uprooting the good plant in the process. Time will tell; the good plant will grow and be seen by the fruit it produces. The weed will be uprooted and thrown away.
When you are young and impressionable, many people vie for what they can get out of you. A favour, a fortune, an ill-earned act; these are the wiles of the shrewd and cunning. As you grow older and wiser, you are able to spot the phoney from the genuine.
True love cannot be bought! Love is patient, love is kind. Love bears all things and is not easily swayed. Love is a constant force that is able to withstand the torrents of life.
Weeds exist to choke the life of plants. They stifle growth and hinder progress. How many people, so called friends, have come into your life with a sole agenda – to see what they can get out of you? At first it is honey all the way. You are gobsmacking by their ‘love’ and caring. They take great pains to go out of their way to make you comfortable. But once they have sunk their claws into you, you are history.
Many people have been deceived by crafty minds of wicked souls. These ‘weeds’ pry on the innocent with Dracula fangs; they are only satisfied once they see blood.
The avenger of that age-old deceiver is the Lord Jesus Christ. At the start of His ministry, He was tempted by Satan three times. Each time the Lord Jesus Christ answered him wisely from the Word of God (Matthew 4:1-11), thus disarming him so he could not deceive Him. Likewise, when we pray, we should ask God for wisdom to detect the schemes of the enemy and how to steer clear off his path.
Uproot the weeds in your life and replace them with a life-giving source of constant love that will cause you to soar like a sunflower reaching towards the sun. 1 John 3:7-8 (KJ2) says, “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
When you come to the lover of your soul, He will guide you and reward you with life everlasting. We have that assurance in Psalm 121:8 that the Lord keeps watch over us as we come and go, both now and forever. With Him by our side, we can weed out those weeds.◊
