There are times when you are tossed to and fro on life’s stormy seas. You use all your strength and all your wits to try to get out of the difficult situation you find yourself in. But the harder you try, the more you see yourself sinking. You scramble in desperation and the weight of the load is just back breaking. In frustration you start to grumble. Your body aches, your heart is bleeding within and your mind cannot even think coherent thoughts anymore. You know that you are a mess!
Imagine what those enslaved Israelites must have felt when finally, the command came to hastily exit Egypt. Babies, kids, teenagers, grandparents, sick relative, everyone (not forgetting their livestock, food provisions and water supply), all marching forward in such haste! Well, spirits must have been jubilant then.
Imagine what this same group of people must have felt as they neared the Red Sea, only to get word that Pharaoh’s army was pursuing them. Jubilation must have turned to sheer terror. They knew too well the wickedness of the slave masters. They knew the long, torturous hours of toil. They knew pain and suffering first hand.
Then God shows up! When all hell breaks loose, when all hope is gone and you think, ‘This is it!’ – God miraculously intervenes. Read Exodus 14 for the full account. Exodus 14:21-22 NKJV says, “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So, the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.”
Likewise, as children of God, when the enemy comes in like a flood, we know that the Lord will raise up a standard against him. The hand of the Lord is not too short that He cannot reach us. Neither is His ears that far that He cannot hear us when we cry out in desperation for His help.
Someone said, ‘Prayer is that key that unlocks the door to God’s supernatural power’. When your life is turned tipsy-turvey and you don’t know what to do, turn to God in earnest prayer. When you give the reins of your life to our Heavenly Father, watch what happens next. In 2 Timothy 4:17-18 ESV we read, “But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So, I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” Indeed, God is our Deliverer. ◊
