When you have given life all you got and fought all the fights required of you, what becomes of the fighter?
We are all endowed with unique gifts and talents. These gifts enable us to live our lives to the best of our ability. Some people are meant to climb mountain, high and majestic. Some people are meant to keep the home fires burning brightly. Some people are meant to add that dash of spice to our lives. Then there are those who are meant to gently touch our soul and quicken our spirit so we can soar towards the clear, open skies. From this platform, we are able to get an aerial perspective on life. What a privilege it is to be surrounded by an assortment of characters! It is like opening up a box of all sorts chocolates or choice assorted biscuits. What a delight to the soul!
The parable of the talents recorded in Matthew 25:14-30 is an interesting account of how we ought to live, based on our gifting. Matthew 25:15 (NKJV) says, “And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his own ability.” There is a stark reality check in verses 24-30 of the unprofitable servant, who buried his talent and reaped his just reward from the master. How have you lived your life thus far? What will your reward be?
Near the end of our lives, we reflect on how we have lived. Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:6-8a (NKJV), “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day.”
Have you fought the good fight? When that day comes, can you say, ‘I have finished the race well’? No man knows the appointed time when his life will expire. We just need to remember to fight the good fight and finish our race well. ◊
