“Write your hurts in the sand; carve your blessings in stone”, a wise person said. So true!
Human nature is such a fickle thing -it is as unpredictable as the wind. People often speak before they think and sometimes they live to regret it all their lives.
Man is amazing in his ability to charter ways across oceans deep and wide, tame and train ferocious animals and search treasures deep within the sea and the earth. Yet, who can tame the unruly tongue? Read James 3:7-8. Wars are waged and battles are fought due to harsh tongues. Vows are made and promises are broken through the tongue. An unsavoury word spoken in haste cannot, with all intents and purposes, be taken back.
The master who is master of everything on earth, cannot master his own course. How very sad! Even the wisest, bravest and the best, fall prey to human nature. Like a mist, slowly enveloping a wide river, the lusts of human nature creeps up on us, offering us its forbidden wares. We unwittingly are soon wrapped in this fog and cannot see how its enticements have hoodwinked our better judgement.
When greed gets a hold of a person, it doesn’t normally happen overnight. Like a cancerous sore, it eats into the heart and head. Only when it is too late, do people realise that they have succumbed to human erring. Greed speaks its own language; it knows no age, colour or creed. It can cause the most stable person to slide into sinking sand. When the lust for things gets into your skin, you have to put up a fight to break away from its chains. Mothers get sidelined, parents get ‘ambushed’ and good souls get whacked on the head. Like a relentless king tide, no mercy is shown as no exercise of reason prevails.
When you become victim of a person chained to greed, what do you do? Very often, it is the ones closest to that person who is dealt the harshest blow. You least expect it but it comes all the same because it is not privy to colour, creed or age. How do you move on when you have been dealt a cruel cut from the ones you love the most? They say, “Write your hurts in the sand; carve your blessings in stone”. Can you do that? ◊
